Selected for the Solheim Cup – makes history

Solheim Cup captain Suzann Pettersen has made her selections for the prestigious meeting with the USA in September and there will be four Swedes on the European team. One of the Norwegian captain's choices is as expected Anna Nordqvist, who with her ninth participation in the team competition writes Swedish golf history.

The Swedish veteran was also vice-captain last year when the team competition was decided in Spain. The match ended in a draw (14–14), but Europe retained the title as reigning champions.

I'm extremely honored and proud to play my ninth Solheim Cup, says the 37-year-old in Sky Sports' broadcast.

With a ninth appearance, Nordqvist will become the Swedish player who has played the most Solheim Cups in history. The trio Annika Sörenstam, Helen Alfredsson, and Sophie Gustafson played the team competition eight times.

Four Swedes

The blue-yellow trio Maja Stark, Linn Grant, and Madelene Sagström have qualified for this year's team via the world ranking, which was clear after last weekend's major tournament British Open. All three were also part of the team last year.

Pettersen also chose Georgia Hall, England, Emily Kristine Pedersen, Denmark, and Albane Valenzuela, Switzerland, as her captain's picks.

Other European players: Charley Hull, England, Esther Henseleit, Germany, Celine Boutier, France, Leona Maguire, Ireland, and Carlota Ciganda, Spain.

Played in the USA

In the USA's team, nine players qualify via different rankings, and among the clear players are, for example, world number one Nelly Korda. Captain Stacy Lewis will make her captain's picks on Tuesday.

Clear players in the USA's team: Nelly Korda, Lilia Vu, Lauren Coughlin, Ally Ewing, Allisen Corpuz, Megan Khang, Andrea Lee, Rose Zhang, and Alison Lee.

This year's competition will be decided at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, USA, on September 13–15.
