At least 20 murders that have taken place in Norway are possible honour killings, according to a report from the National Criminal Police Kripos.

The authority has examined murders that took place between 2000 and 2022 and found 24 with suspected honour motives.

"Honour killings are a serious social problem that the police take very seriously. To prevent and investigate this type of crime, we need more knowledge," announces Kripos chief Kristin Kvigne when the report is published.

One thing that is highlighted is that often many people are involved or accomplices. In 11 of the 24 murder cases, there is concrete information that more people than the murderer may have contributed to the murder, directly or indirectly.

But in only one of the cases has anyone been convicted of aiding and abetting.

"It sends unfortunate signals," announces Kripos chief Kvigne.
