Australia's female swimmers had just received their Olympic gold medals in the 4x100 freestyle relay – when Eurosport commentator Bob Ballard spoke up, and it wasn't about the athletic achievement.
In a clip from the live broadcast, which has gone viral on social media, he can be heard saying:
The girls are just getting ready. You know how women are... hanging around and putting on makeup.
His expert commentator Lizzie Simmonds immediately reacted to the sexist words, and called it "outraging".
Now the TV company is taking action and removing Ballard from the Olympic broadcasts.
”During one of Eurosport's broadcasts last night (Saturday), commentator Bob Ballard made an inappropriate comment. Therefore, he has now been removed from our group of commentators with immediate effect,” writes Eurosport in a press release.
Australia's gold team consisted of Shayna Jack, Mollie O'Callaghan, Emma Mckeon, and Meg Harris.
Corrected: In an earlier version, the commentator's nationality was incorrectly stated. The nationality has been removed.
