840 people are laid off from Northvolt's battery factory in Skellefteå. This is clear since the negotiations with IF Metall are now complete.

1,850 metalworkers will remain.

We have focused on how many we can keep, says the union's representative Johan Larsson to TT.

Originally, over 1,000 metalworkers were given notice. Given the circumstances – the company is in an acute crisis – Johan Larsson is still fairly pleased, although it is a "tragedy" for all those who now have to leave their jobs, many of whom have come from other countries.

The notification is expected to be sent out to the affected individuals from the company on Wednesday or Thursday, according to Johan Larsson. In addition to the actual layoffs, there will be many reassignments among those who remain.

It was in September that Northvolt gave notice to a total of 1,600 employees due to the company's economic crisis.

After negotiations with the trade unions Unionen, Sveriges ingenjörer, and Ledarna, it was announced last week that 338 salaried employees would be laid off, the majority in Skellefteå.

Now, the negotiations are also complete with IF Metall.
