Copenhagen's underground network is growing with an additional six kilometres and five new stations. The Danish king was present to cut the ribbon at the inauguration.
After nearly six years of work, the so-called M4 line has now got five new stations, including Mozarts Plads, where the inauguration ceremony took place with King Frederik X. The expansion has cost almost ten billion Danish kroner and means that passengers can now travel from Orientkaj in the Nordhavn district to København Syd in Valby.
The expansion means that Copenhagen's underground network, which consists of four lines, now includes 44 stations. This can be compared to 100 stations for Stockholm's equivalent.
The Danish underground opened as late as 2002, and the M4 line was added in 2020. Unlike Stockholm and many other underground networks around the world, the trains are completely driverless.
