Xherdan Shaqiri rescued a point for his Switzerland after a dream goal against Scotland in the European Championship.

The match ended 1–1 – and the 32-year-old has now become a goalscorer in six consecutive championships.

It was Scotland who got the better start to the match against Switzerland. The team put in a much more aggressive start than in the European Championship opener, which ended in a 1–5 defeat to Germany, and they certainly got their reward.

In the 13th minute, after a quick Scottish turnaround, Scott McTominay's shot was deflected in by a Swiss defender and 1–0 was a fact.

However, Switzerland would respond.

Just a quarter of an hour after Scotland's leading goal, Xherdan Shaqiri could exploit a Scottish mistake, snatch the ball and score the equaliser – a real dream goal from outside the penalty area.

Shaqiri's 1–1 goal means he has now scored in six consecutive championships (World Championship and European Championship) – a feat he is the first to achieve.

With only minutes left of the match, it also looked like Switzerland would turn the tables – but Breel Embolo's 2–1 goal was ruled out for offside.

Group A concludes on Sunday. Then Switzerland will meet Germany, while Scotland will face Hungary.
