The Bonnier-owned staffing company Marieberg Media is being shut down. The company rents out journalists to various editorial offices around the country, primarily in the Stockholm area. Among others, Expressen and Dagens Nyheter, also owned by Bonnier, have used Marieberg employees for many years.
In an email to the employees, which TT has taken part of, it says that Marieberg's customers need "new digital skills and perspectives" and that "Marieberg Media's current competencies do not fully reflect the requirements and expectations that today's increasingly digital media landscape demands."
According to the trade magazine Journalisten, one contributing factor to the shutdown is that Marieberg Media has started to follow the Employment Protection Act since the spring. In brief, media companies like Expressen and DN can no longer handpick the temporary employees they want.
About 50 permanent employees are affected by the shutdown, according to Journalisten.
