Among heavyweights, Astra Zeneca topped the list, up 1.7 percent, after the pharmaceutical giant announced that it had obtained approval for a lung cancer drug on the Chinese market.

Defense contractor Saab also performed strongly, rising 1.2 percent.

At the other end, real estate company SBB fell the most, down 3.1 percent.

Live casino operator Evolution dropped 2.6 percent, while telecom company Tele 2 fell 2.4 percent.

The leading European stock exchanges also rose during the day, with gains in line with the Stockholm Stock Exchange. On Wall Street, it was also up at 17:30 (Swedish time).

During the night's Asian trading, Shanghai rose while Hong Kong fell. The news of new economic stimulus from China's ruling party on Saturday was a bit of a disappointment, while new data indicated that the Chinese economy is stagnating.

This week, the Swedish reporting season kicks off, with Ericsson first out to report third-quarter figures on Tuesday.
