Dozens of North Korean soldiers temporarily crossed the heavily guarded border between South Korea and North Korea, reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap. It is the second time it has happened within two weeks.
According to the South Korean military, on Tuesday morning local time, around 20-30 North Korean soldiers, carrying work tools, crossed the so-called armistice line, which lies in the middle of the demilitarised zone that separates the two countries.
After South Korea fired warning shots, the North Korean soldiers returned to their side of the border. According to South Korea's military, the incursion appears to have been a mistake.
The two countries have never signed a peace treaty after the 1950-1953 war, and a ceasefire agreement is still in effect.
