Spotify does not have to pay in the copyright case concerning Eminem's music. A judge in Tennessee has decided that it is instead the music publisher Kobalt Music Group, which manages artists' copyrights, that was responsible for paying out the money, writes Pitchfork.

It was in 2019 that Eminem's music publisher Eight Mile Style sued Spotify for copyright infringement and demanded $40 million from the music giant. According to the lawsuit, the music service had offered hundreds of Eminem's songs for listening without having the correct licenses.

Eminem, Marshall Mathers, does not himself own the rights to the songs and has therefore not been involved in the legal process.
