Australian Olympic champion Emma McKeon will not be defending her gold on the 100m freestyle in Paris.
McKeon only finished sixth in the Australian Olympic trials in Brisbane.
Mollie O'Callaghan and Shayna Jack secured the spots.
No other country in the world maintains the same high level on an Olympic distance as Australia on the 100m freestyle.
Seven out of eight finalists were under the Olympic qualifying standard, and O'Callaghan was the fastest with 52.33, just over six tenths above Sarah Sjöström's world record of 51.71. Runner-up Shayna Jack had 52.72.
It was a really tough race with so many great swimmers whom I respect so much and who are an inspiration. I'm a bit disappointed with the time, but it's something to work on ahead of Paris, says O'Callaghan, World Champion on the distance last year.
Former world record holder Cate Campbell, Olympic bronze medallist in Tokyo, didn't even manage to make it to the final.
Emma McKeon became the Olympic champion in Tokyo, where she took seven medals, four gold and three bronze.
She will still be going to Paris, though, as she qualified earlier in the week on the 100m butterfly. She will also be part of the team on the 4x100m freestyle, as the top six will be selected.
