He was booed out in the semifinal due to a previous handball situation.

A bit sad, thinks Spain's Marc Cucurella.

The left-back was booed as soon as he got the ball in the semifinal against France. German fans on site in Munich had not forgotten the situation in the quarterfinal where the ball hit the left-back's hand – but without it resulting in a penalty for Germany, who were later eliminated.

Cucurella admits to The Athletic that he was surprised by the booing.

I realized it for the first time when my name was read out before the match and many started booing… I thought about it and then understood that it was because of the handball situation, he says.

The 25-year-old, who normally plays for Chelsea, says he doesn't care that much about it. But at the same time…

It's a bit sad that some people came there to boo a single player. It's wasted tickets that could have gone to fans who would have really enjoyed the match, he says.

Whether there will be booing or not on Sunday at 21.00 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that Marc Cucurella's Spain will play the European Championship final against England then.

If we dominate ball possession as we have done before and are aware of their high pressure and everything we need to do to avoid their counter-attacks, then we have good chances of winning, he says.
