The reason is that the security situation in the region, the situation is extremely alarming and the conflict risks escalating, says Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) to TT.

It concerns six people who are now leaving Beirut. How and when they leave Lebanon, Billström does not want to go into. The closure applies initially for the month of August but may be extended depending on the security situation.

Cyprus is preferred over Stockholm, considering the geographical location, while Cyprus is not directly affected by the security situation.

For the Swedes who have chosen to stay in Lebanon despite the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' (UD) call to leave the country, the embassy move means it will become even more difficult to get help on site.

Tobias Billström once again urges Swedes to leave the country while it is still possible.

Swedes who choose to stay in Lebanon should take measures to keep themselves as safe as possible in the event of the conflict escalating. Those who defy the warning cannot expect to receive help.

Swedish citizens who stay and want help are referred to other EU countries' embassies, says Tobias Billström.
