The alpine legend Ingemar Stenmark, 68, will compete in pole vault, Sports Minister Jakob Forssmed, 49, will run 1,500 meters, and the former running star Mustafa Mohammed won the gold medal on Wednesday in the 5,000 meters in the 45-year-old class.
None of them are the oldest at the World Championship in athletics. That is the Indian Sriramulu Vallabhajosyula, who is 100 years old. On Thursday, he competed as the sole participant in the cultural event's men's 100-year-old class. The Indian will also compete in javelin, discus, and walking during the championship in Gothenburg.
Everyone who has turned 35 can participate in the World Championship and there are no qualification limits. The championship takes place from August 13 to 25 and 8,200 participants from 110 nations have registered.
