The new indictment against former film mogul Harvey Weinstein is being postponed until next year. This is announced by Judge Curtis Farber.
Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault four years ago, a sentence he is serving on Rikers Island in New York. In April this year, the New York Supreme Court overturned the verdict, citing errors during the trial.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that new charges have been brought to the court's attention. However, the number and identity of the individuals who have come forward during the investigation are unclear – and will remain so until the indictment reaches court. Weinstein denies all allegations.
When this will happen is also unclear. Judge Farber will first decide on a new date on January 29 next year. The reason is the prosecution's wish to merge the old cases with those that emerged in September.
On Tuesday, sources told several American news agencies that 72-year-old Weinstein has been diagnosed with a form of blood cancer.
