"Not enough to reach the climate goals"

The opposition believes that the government is fudging the numbers regarding the effects of the increased reduction obligation. The higher level will not lead to Sweden achieving the EU's climate goals by 2030, according to the Green Party's spokesperson Daniel Helldén. It is obvious that they are misleading on this issue, he says.

The government and SD announced on Tuesday that the reduction obligation will be increased from 6 to 10 percent. Something they believe will contribute to Sweden achieving the EU's climate goals by 2030.

The Green Party's spokesperson Daniel Helldén believes the announcement is "not serious".

It's so obvious that Ebba Busch and Romina Pourmokhtari are misleading us on this issue. They are not even close to compensating for the emission increases they cause, he says.

Isn't it good that they're increasing the reduction obligation?

That they're tweaking the reduction obligation we introduced, there's something to it. But the important thing here is that it has such a small effect.

"Climate bluff"

According to the government, the increased reduction obligation means that emissions will decrease by approximately 2 million tons by 2030.

The Center Party's spokesperson for climate and energy policy Rickard Nordin is critical.

They've increased emissions first, by 4 million tons per year.

I would say that this is a climate bluff and number trickery. Emissions aren't decreasing nearly as much as needed, says Nordin.

The Center Party wants a higher percentage rate and believes that other renewable fuels, such as biogas and HVO, should be included.

The Social Democrats think the government's U-turn is "unreliable and unserious handling".

Since the election, there have been different percentage rates, SD wanting a government crisis, and now they come with a new message today, says climate policy spokesperson Anna-Caren Sätherberg.

"Not leading to it"

The Social Democrats have also proposed an increased reduction obligation in their "Sweden fuel" initiative.

That they now back down and realize it's good politics, that's good. But we need to look at everything as a whole when they present the budget so that we really achieve the goals we've set, she says.

According to Daniel Helldén, it will not be enough to achieve the EU's climate goals by 2030.

Of the little they said at the press conference, there's nothing that shows how they'll achieve the goals. This marginal increase in the reduction obligation they're making now will not lead to it.
