The Investigator: An Incredibly Brutal Triple Murder

Three people were shot to death in their homes in southern Stockholm within a 24-hour period. Now, two boys are sentenced to 12 and 10 years in prison, respectively, for murder and incitement. "You're playing games with real people's lives," says police investigator Annika Teckner.

On October 12, 2023, a masked shooter enters through the patio door of a villa in Västberga and murders a 40-year-old father of small children.

One floor up, the murderer meets a woman with a small child in her arms. He orders her to turn around before shooting her in the back. The daughter is also lightly injured by a shot.

A day later, two women, 20 and 60 years old, are shot to death in a villa in Tullinge. In a nearby taxi, a 16-year-old boy is arrested with an automatic weapon.

The same perpetrator enters the homes of people he doesn't know, shoots his way in, searches and shoots indiscriminately the people he encounters. It's so incredibly brutal, says investigation leader Annika Teckner.

Traumatized Children

The police officers who are first on the scene describe the villas as war zones covered in glass splinters and gun smoke.

Besides the investigative work, the police have to handle the children at the crime scenes where there are dead bodies. They sit with them and try to calm them down, however you can do that. When they have secured the areas, they are carried out with blankets over their heads so they don't see the horrific.

The now 17-year-old murderer is sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murders and attempted murders of five children and two adults who were in the houses. A then 15-year-old boy is sentenced to 10 years in prison for instigating the crimes. According to Teckner, he ordered the killings as if he was playing a game.

He sends out people to murder and then brags about it. It's so raw that it feels like it's not a human being doing this.

The boy, who communicates with someone he resembles as a father, is believed to be instructed by someone abroad.

There are a number of people who have been written about a lot who are hiding in Turkey, Iran, and Iraq. It's someone in that circle, I would say.

Stopped the Bleeding

The woman in Västberga, who is a doctor, was seriously injured by the shots.

She could absolutely have died, but managed to more or less stick her hand into the gunshot wound and stop the bleeding. If the bullet had moved a centimeter, the child might also have died.

For Annika Teckner, it took many months before she took in the brutality of the case she was working on.

You go into a professional role, but when I sat down and read the newspaper as a private person, the reaction came and I felt, God, what have I been working with for the past six months?

Four people were prosecuted and are now convicted for their involvement in the triple murder in Västberga and Tullinge last October.

17-year-old boy (16 years old at the time of the murders): Sentenced to 12 years in prison for three murders, seven attempted murders, and aggravated weapons offenses.

16-year-old boy (15 years old at the time of the murders): Sentenced to 10 years in prison for instigating the murders and attempted murders, aggravated weapons offenses, and accessory to murder and attempted murder.

22-year-old man: Sentenced to 16 years in prison for accessory to murder and attempted murder, and accessory to aggravated murder.

16-year-old girl (15 years old at the time of the murders): Sentenced to closed youth care for two years and two months for accessory to murder and attempted murder, aggravated weapons offenses, and accessory to murder and attempted murder.
