The NCSC, and Sweden's general work with cybersecurity, has previously received sharp criticism - including from the National Audit Office.
What we are doing now is to move forward to build a new cybersecurity center, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister for Civil Defense, at a press conference.
He states that the situation regarding cybersecurity has deteriorated. The threats against Sweden have increased and are now more complex and sophisticated than before.
The government has already announced that the FRA will take over the responsibility for the NCSC. This will formally take place on November 1.
Would it have been better if Sweden had done this ten years ago? Yes, we are trying to cut corners as much as possible, says Bohlin in response to a question about why the work with the NCSC is taking so long.
The center has been a political ambition since 2019, but the responsibility has long been divided between different authorities, including the FRA, Säpo, and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
Now, it is the "secret" FRA that will be responsible for a cybersecurity center with the ambition of being more open, so that the entire society can benefit.
This will be a bit of a cultural journey for the authority, says Björn Lyrvall.
The search for a head of the new NCSC will begin "in the coming days", according to Bohlin.
