The Royal Opera has issued a press release in the evening, where they "strongly" distance themselves from the opinions expressed by an employee on social media.
It is the newspaper Expressen that in a cultural column has highlighted the statements where one of the Opera's soloists praises Russia and wishes death upon the newspaper's Russia correspondent.
The employee has now been taken out of service, while the Royal Opera reiterates its support for the Ukrainian people and opposition to Russia's invasion.
"Employees at the Royal Opera have the right to express private opinions freely. In this case, however, we assess that the statement contradicts the Royal Opera's code of conduct. We have therefore chosen to remove the current employee from the Royal Opera's productions while we investigate the consequences of the statement," the Opera writes in the press release.
