The Scandal: Morata Injured After Pitch Invasion

Pitch invaders continue to be a major problem during the European Championship in Germany.

Yesterday, Álvaro Morata suffered a leg injury after a person entered the pitch and caused a collision.

He has a sore leg, but we believe he will be okay, says Spain's national team coach Luis de la Fuente.

After the semifinal between Spain and France, scandalous scenes unfolded at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Two pitch invaders entered simultaneously as the Spanish players stood in front of the supporters and celebrated their European Championship final spot.

In an attempt to stop one of the pitch invaders, a security guard collided with Spain's forward and captain Álvaro Morata, who then clutched his leg in pain.

We will wait and see what happens with Álvaro. Something happened when they celebrated, something with his leg. We don't think it's anything serious, but we'll have to wait until tomorrow and see. Hopefully, it's nothing, says Luis de la Fuente, Spain's national team coach, afterwards.

Spain's vice-captain Rodri is not worried.

We saw that something happened. We saw that he got hurt and was in pain, but there are a few days until the final and he should be okay, says the midfielder.

Pitch invaders have been a major problem during the championship in Germany. Earlier in the same match, a pitch invader made it all the way to France's star Kylian Mbappé, who pushed the person away.

In the match between Portugal and Turkey, several pitch invaders entered and ran towards Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spain won the semifinal against France 2–1 and will play the European Championship final on Sunday at 21.00 in Berlin.

Then, they will face either the Netherlands or England, whose semifinal will be decided tonight at 21.00.

Corrected: In an earlier version, the wrong venue was stated. The correct venue is the Allianz Arena in Munich.
