The Swedish Film Institute is reducing its staff. The management is announcing a reduction of 20 positions, of which 16 are permanent employees, writes Dagens Nyheter.

It is clear that it is problematic and creates a lot of anxiety. At the same time, we understand that one must address the economy, says Torkel Stål, local Saco chairman, to the newspaper.

The reason is that the Film Institute is struggling with poor finances. The government grants have remained unchanged since 2017, while costs have increased due to inflation and higher rent, among other things.

The Swedish Film Institute currently has a staff of 140 people.

We have a mission from the state and we will continue to deliver according to that mission. But when 20 positions disappear, we must of course find new ways of working, says the Film Institute's CEO Anna Croneman to DN.
