The Turning Point: The Liberals Want to Scrap the F-Grade

The Liberals want to scrap the F grade, which excludes many from upper secondary school, writes Education Minister Johan Pehrson and School Minister Lotta Edholm on SvD Debatt.

"Replace the grade F with a more nuanced system", they write and mean that the current six-grade grading system, A-F, should be replaced by what they call a more symmetrical scale.

"We should not have a grading system that leads to a large proportion of students being excluded from upper secondary education."

The debate article comes a few days after Edholm's turnaround in an interview with Dagens Nyheter. Then, she opened up to introducing a new grading system without an F-limit. The Minister of Education has previously said no to removing the grade. She says she has changed her mind because the proposal, which she presents together with party leader Pehrson on SvD Debatt along with other proposals, involves a completely new grading system.

In February next year, the government's grading inquiry will be presented, and then a new ten-grade grading scale is expected to be proposed, as the newspaper Vi Lärare has previously reported.
