The end of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 is approaching and several media outlets report that American film star Tom Cruise is preparing for a daring stunt during the closing ceremony.

But not everyone is equally happy about his participation, which has not yet been officially confirmed.

This concerns the French umbrella organization for sect victims, where several representatives are criticizing Cruise's involvement. The reason is that he has long been a member of Scientology, which is considered a sect in France.

"The simple fact that we're talking about his presence is an insult to victims", says Catherine Katz, a former French judge who leads UNADFI, a group that defends victims of sects.

Anti-sect activists also accuse Scientologists of recruiting outside the Olympic arenas. Among other places, at Stade de France, where the closing ceremony is to be held.
