Question marks surrounding the man suspected of attempting to murder the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a campaign meeting are still many.
Trump himself describes on his social media platform Truth Social how a bullet "penetrated the upper part" of his ear. Two more people were seriously injured and one man died.
The suspected shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from a relatively affluent suburb of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, was shot by the police on the spot after several shots were fired at the presidential candidate.
According to FBI's second-in-command Robert Wells, the police barely found the suspected shooter on social media and they have not managed to access the 20-year-old's mobile phone.
The motive is also still a question mark.
Crooks is said to have registered as a Republican before the election, but at the same time, there are reports that he donated $15 to the liberal organization Progressive Turnout Project via the Democratic donation platform Actblue in January 2021, according to The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, he is not in Pennsylvania's public court records, which means he has not been previously convicted of a crime in the state.
Crooks is said to have been a member of a shooting club just south of Pittsburgh, which the club confirms to The New York Times without going into details.
In a statement that the newspaper has taken part of, the shooting club condemns the act of violence and prays for all those injured.
