There is a price to pay as an artist to come forward and talk about harassment and discrimination. According to the Danish Musicians' Union, participants in the DR documentary "Sexism in the music industry" have been threatened.
The documentary, where several female musicians come forward and tell about sexism and transgressive behaviour in the industry, premiered on DR on Monday and already before the broadcast, the participants had faced consequences, reports Ekstrabladet.
We know that there have been threats in connection with this broadcast. But what real consequences it has in terms of playing at a festival or getting a record contract, we have no figures on, says Danish Musicians' Union chief Thomas Sandberg.
Rapper Filuka, whose real name is Fiona Celeste Spang Bergsøe, participates in the documentary and tells Ekstra Bladet that she has already received unpleasant comments on social media before the broadcast, speculating about whether she will get any gigs in the future.
It has certainly cost me relationships in the industry, friendships and jobs. It's really regrettable that it has to be this way, but at the same time, I think it's the price you pay to hopefully be able to change the structural problems in the long run, she says.
