The leading indexes on the New York Stock Exchange closed on a plus on Tuesday.

The broad S&P 500 index rose 0.6 percent, the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index increased 0.2 percent, and the Dow Jones industrial index advanced 1.9 percent.

Among the winners were TV giant Warner Bros Discovery, which rose 7.6 percent, the American airline Delta Air Lines, which climbed 7.0 percent, and the e-commerce company Etsy, which lifted 6.3 percent.

Some of Tuesday's losers were semiconductor giant Nvidia, which fell 1.6 percent, and Meta, which owns Instagram and Facebook, and sank 1.3 percent.

Software giant Microsoft also ended on a minus, losing 1.0 percent.
