The American newspaper Washington Post announces that it does not intend to support Kamala Harris or Donald Trump in the presidential election.
According to the newspaper's CEO William Lewis, the decision is a return to a principle of not taking a stance. However, Washington Post has supported several Democratic presidential candidates during a large part of the last four decades. Lewis states that the newspaper's editorial page will never again take a stance for any of the candidates.
Washington Post has a slogan that reads "Democracy dies in darkness" and is considered an influential newspaper for those interested in politics in the USA. The decision follows after the newspaper Los Angeles Times also decided not to openly choose a side in the presidential election. At the same time, the New York Post's editorial page has openly come out and supported Donald Trump.
Washington Post is owned by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men in the world.
