"We must come together"

During the last decades, Sweden has gone in the wrong direction, according to the Social Democrats. Society has fallen apart instead of coming together, says party leader Magdalena Andersson in her summer speech at Högbo bruk in Sandviken on Sunday.

We must come together so that everyone who works hard and contributes to our country gets the justice, security, and respect they deserve, says Andersson.

She says that everyone in Sweden should be able to rely on healthcare, rely on having a safety net in case of unemployment, and a pension to live on.

When you work, pay taxes, and do the right thing, you should be able to live a good life, says Magdalena Andersson.

"The gaps are increasing"

The S-leader criticizes the government for having focused on reducing taxes for high-income earners instead of investing in healthcare.

The gaps are increasing and social cohesion is disintegrating, she says.

Andersson talks about Sweden being one of the countries with the worst economic growth in the entire EU.

Sweden and Swedes are getting poorer, we need a different economic policy. All Swedish households should be able to live a good life, she says.

A completely new approach

Furthermore, Andersson says that new approaches are needed to tackle gang crime in Sweden.

We have proposed that a so-called Rico legislation should be investigated. A form of legislation that exists in the USA and which was very successful in combating their mafia, says the party leader.

She also says that the recruitment of young people to gangs must be stopped and that the Social Democrats want municipalities to take over all private HVB homes that receive young criminals. Municipalization would also mean extended powers for staff.

For every gang criminal we put behind bars, there are new young guys ready to take their place. Therefore, we must break the recruitment.

"International law must apply"

Towards the end of Andersson's summer speech, she talks about the suffering in Gaza and the need for a ceasefire, as well as the release of Israeli hostages.

A whole people in Gaza live in fear, hunger, and desperation, she says, and continues:

Sweden's government must be clear that international law must apply throughout the world, also in Gaza and on the West Bank. The suffering in Gaza must cease, says Magdalena Andersson.
