In the quarterfinals, a stormy meeting awaits with the former winner at Flushing Meadows, Russian Daniil Medvedev. He won the Grand Slam tournament in 2021 and was in the final last year. He outclassed Portuguese Nuño Borges in the fourth round, only losing four games.
Sinner and Medvedev have met four times this year, including in the Australian Open final when Sinner turned 0–2 into a 3–2 victory. Medvedev took revenge at Wimbledon when he won a five-set match in the quarterfinals.

The women's world number one, Iga Swiatek, is also through to the quarterfinals. The Pole defeated Russian Ljudmila Samsonova in two straight sets, 6–4, 6–1. In the quarterfinals on Thursday, American Jessica Pegula awaits.
