The five-day registration period for candidates to run in Iran's presidential election has ended, and a total of 80 people have registered, according to Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi.
The election is being held to find a successor to Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash.
Conservative Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran's parliament, submitted his candidacy on Monday. The speaker has previously run for the presidency in 2005, 2013, and 2017.
It was announced on Sunday that former hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is once again seeking the presidency.
Those who have registered must wait until June 11 to see if their candidacy has been approved.
The election will be held on June 28.
