After Doping – No Room for Pogba

The doping-banned Frenchman Paul Pogba is free to play football again in March next year. Now his club Juventus announces that there will likely be no place in the squad for the 31-year-old midfielder.

Our stance is very clear. Paul was a great player, but he has been away from playing for a long time, said Juventus sports chief Cristiano Giuntoli to DAZN after Saturday's home win against Lazio (1–0).

Both last year and this year, we have been forced to invest in other players and right now the squad is complete, continued Giuntoli.

Pogba tested positive for testosterone in August 2023 after a match with Juventus. In February, the Italian anti-doping organization announced that the Frenchman would be banned for four years, but at the beginning of October, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the penalty to 18 months.

This makes a comeback possible on March 11, 2025. Pogba has a contract with Juventus until June 2026 and the 31-year-old said himself to Gazetta dello Sport this week that he wants to stay with the Turin club, even if it would mean a salary reduction.

Since he was suspended in September last year, Pogba has had a minimum salary of around 2,000 euros per month (approximately 23,000 kronor). His contract is reportedly – including potential bonuses – worth around ten million euros (approximately 114 million kronor).
