Votes that previously spoke loudly about Joe Biden should step down as presidential candidate may lose strength after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, sources report to NBC News.

Since the disastrous debate against Donald Trump at the end of June, several Democrats have urged Joe Biden to step down as presidential candidate.

After the assassination attempt on his Republican opponent Donald Trump during an election meeting in Pennsylvania, efforts to try to replace Joe Biden as presidential candidate may pause, reports NBC News.

One of those who still supports Biden is said to have said, "I think it's over", "You're just losing all momentum."

According to another ally, it could mean negative attention if attempts to replace Biden as presidential candidate continued during an impending crisis.

Biden's health, age, and suitability as the Democrats' candidate for the 2024 presidential election have been debated extensively over the past few weeks. In the presidential debate on June 27, his performance was described as "catastrophic".

On Saturday, Biden gathered Democrats in the House of Representatives for a conversation in an attempt to calm the concern. But several of the attending officials are said to have been moderately impressed instead.

"They had a very bad political day, and then we had this supernova event. Now it's frozen", said a Democratic strategist with experience of presidential election campaigns.

After Sunday's assassination attempt, Biden did not wait for calls from Congress, but spoke directly to the nation in a televised address.
