After over 50 years on the TV channel CBS, the American music industry's high-society evening, the Grammy Gala, is getting a new home.
The streaming service Disney has acquired the rights in a 10-year agreement and the gala will be broadcast on ABC, Hulu, and Disney+ from 2027 onwards.
According to Deadline's sources, CBS was interested in keeping the Grammy Gala, but despite intense negotiations – even after the negotiation window had closed – the TV company and The Recording Academy could not reach an agreement.
The Music Academy then initiated negotiations with other interested parties, and in the end, it was Disney that made the winning bid.
This year's gala was hosted by comedian and talk show host Trevor Noah, and among the winners was the Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, who received the award for best film music for "Oppenheimer".
