The Danish defence forces must save at least 100 million Danish kronor before the year is out. The sum corresponds to approximately 150 million Swedish kronor.
Therefore, military exercises, shooting training, and education are being cancelled – in the middle of what was intended to be an investment in the defence.
All soldiers will be sent home on two weeks' compulsory leave, and payments for overtime work and supplements will be discontinued. Furthermore, training of new professional soldiers, officers, and certain officers will be cut back. Denmark is also cancelling several NATO exercises this autumn.
According to DR, the reason for the cutbacks is that the plans for 2024 were too ambitious and cost more than there is money for.
Earlier, Extra Bladet has reported that the military intelligence service, Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste (FE), must also save.
