North Korea has successfully tested a new tactical ballistic missile that can carry "super-large" warheads, according to North Korean state-controlled media.
The missile is said to be able to carry a warhead of up to 4.5 tons, and the country claims that more tests will be conducted later in July to test the missile's capacity.
The weapon is described in North Korean media as a "super-large warhead", where the word "nuclear" has been deliberately omitted, according to South Korean analyst Hong Min.
But since it is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, it can be considered a nuclear weapon, says Hong Min to the news agency AFP.
On the other side of the border, in South Korea's capital Seoul, the North Korean claims about the successful test are called a "lie". They point out that one of the tested missiles took a trajectory that could suggest it exploded in the air over North Korea.
The missile test takes place at a time of great tension between the two arch-enemies North and South Korea.
For several weeks, a propaganda war has been waged on the Korean Peninsula, where, among other things, balloons filled with trash, feces, and cigarette butts have been sent from the northern neighbor.
South Korea, on the other hand, has set up giant loudspeakers directed north, broadcasting news and streaming k-pop.
