Denmark opens embassies in Senegal, Tunisia, and Rwanda and closes its embassies in Burkina Faso and Mali. In several other African countries, the "diplomatic muscle power" will be strengthened at Danish embassies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces in a press release.
The measures mean that Denmark will have ten more diplomats in Africa in 2026 than today.
It is our ambition to be present where it is sensible, where we see potential and where we have clear Danish interests, says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen at a press conference.
The closure of the embassies in Mali and Burkina Faso comes as a result of "a severely limited scope for action in the Sahel region following a series of military coups in recent years", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces.
