Famous in Sweden - Why Don’t We Care?

Although Sweden has many celebrities, just like any other countries, we might not seem to care as much about them. Fan culture is not really a thing in Sweden, and although we might have a favorite actor or comedian, we might not care that much about their personal life or getting an autograph.

When I lived in Japan, I saw the complete opposite. There, even lesser-known celebrities can have very dedicated fans who follow every detail of their lives and show lots of support to their favorite artist. But in Sweden, the scene is quite the opposite.

We do not really have fan culture here. I do not know of any Swedish person who, for example, runs an online fan page for their favorite artist or actor, or who buys merchandise from their favorite tv show.

Although you might have a favorite actor or celebrity in Sweden, in general you think of them just as any other person. They are a person, just like you and me, and this means being famous does not really mean that much in Sweden.
