Success in Olympic Games 2024 and Truls-fever

Truls Möregårdh achieved great success in the Olympic Games in Paris, where he won two silver medals, one in men's singles and the other in team events with Sweden. His enormous achievement, combined with the fact that it's been many years since Sweden had such a significant international success in table tennis, has led to a massive increase in interest in the sport across the country.

Many young people want to try table tennis, and many table tennis clubs in Sweden have gained new members who want to start playing.

European Championship gold medal 2023

Last year, the Swedish national table tennis team, with Truls Möregårdh and Kristian Karlsson, won the European Championship gold medal (held in Malmö) in a remarkable comeback style. This gave Swedes hope that we might have a new generation of talented successful table tennis players.

Truls Möregårdh's popularity in China

SVT reports that Truls' achievements have not gone unnoticed in China. In China, table tennis is a national sport, and there is enormous interest in the sport, with massive media coverage. Truls Möregårdh has been given the nickname Xiao Mo, which roughly translates to "young, energetic, and cute." He is also referred to as "the divine" due to the respect for his achievements. Truls seems to enjoy getting different nicknames in China and says

"they can keep going as much as they want."

Currently, Truls is competing in a major tournament in Beijing.

World Rankings
