Four people have died and several have been injured in a train crash in the Czech Republic.

The accident occurred late on Wednesday evening when an express train collided with a freight train in the Czech city of Pardubice, about 100 kilometers east of the capital Prague.

According to Kavka, there were around 300 people on the train, many of them from other countries. The train was en route to the Ukrainian city of Chop, which is near the border with Slovakia.

Nine ambulances, two helicopters, and more than 60 firefighters were sent to the scene.

At least 20 people are reported to have been injured in the collision, but according to Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan, the majority of the injuries were minor. Passengers were evacuated from the train to the waiting room at the train station.
