North Macedonia's parliament has approved the country's new government, and thus Hristijan Mickoski can begin his work as prime minister for the next four years.
Nationalist Mickoski and his party VMRO-DPMNE received 43 per cent of the votes in the May election, and are now leading a coalition government.
In a government declaration on Saturday, he promised to lower taxes and increase pensions while the economy is expected to grow by 5 per cent this year.
Mickoski has vowed to continue the efforts of previous governments to approach the EU, despite his party being EU-critical and both Mickoski and the new president Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova having expressed reservations about the two countries that have primarily blocked North Macedonia's path to membership, Bulgaria and Greece.
The country received the green light for negotiations in 2022, but no real negotiations have yet begun.
