The proposal for a ceasefire presented by US President Joe Biden a week ago is "just words," says Osama Hamdan, a representative of the terrorist-designated Hamas.

He also reiterated earlier demands that Israel must withdraw from Gaza for Hamas to accept a peace agreement.

Earlier on Thursday, Egyptian state-owned Al-Qahera reported that Egyptian negotiators had received positive signals from Hamas about a desire to achieve a ceasefire and that a response is expected "in the coming days".

Confusion has grown around the plan for a ceasefire presented by Joe Biden. It was described as Israeli, but Israeli ministers have since given different statements about where they actually stand.

The plan, according to Biden, would bring an end to the armed conflict, free all those held hostage by Hamas, and potentially lead to the reconstruction of a Gaza that Hamas would not govern.

On Wednesday, the US called for a response from the terrorist-designated Hamas about the proposal for a ceasefire.

The day before, Qatar's mediator Majed al-Ansari had stated that they were waiting for a clear Israeli stance, which applies to the entire government.
