Highest Rent Increases Since 1993

The average rent increase for tenants in rental apartments landed at 5.0 percent this year, according to new figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB). It is the highest since 1993.

Last year, rents increased on average by 4.1 percent.

Over the past ten years, rent agreements have varied greatly. At their lowest, rent increases were in 2016 and 2017, when they rose by 0.8 percent per year.

On average, a three-room apartment now costs 8,641 kronor per month, while a one-room apartment averages 5,119 kronor per month in the country.

It is more expensive to live in newly built apartments. A newly built three-room apartment cost on average 11,125 kronor per month last year, according to SCB.
