Raw material prices linked to food rose in September at the highest rate in 18 months, according to the UN's food agency FAO.

All food raw materials rose in price, with sugar at the top.

Compared to August this year, FAO's price index rose by 3.0 percent. From September last year, the increase was 2.1 percent, according to a press release.

Sugar on the world market became 10 percent more expensive during the past month, partly as an effect of expected poor harvests in Brazil and that India is considering lifting restrictions on using sugar for ethanol production.
