Like previous directors-general and other agency heads who have been fired from their jobs, Stockholm's former governor Anna Kinberg Batra's employment within the Government Offices will continue until her contract expires – with retained salary.
Ulf Kristersson says that he understands that there is criticism of how the system looks.
I can understand that it sticks in the eyes, he says and adds:
It is a practice that I do not think has ever been broken, but it is no good reason to just continue as today. We have taken the initiative to review the system and see what rules should apply going forward.
According to the Prime Minister, a new practice is needed:
Clear rules are needed that have an anchor in a broad sense of justice. But it must happen in broad consensus so that these rules can apply over a long period of time, he says.
The Government can, however, submit a notification to the Parliamentary Ombudsman, which will assess whether Batra's employment within the Government Offices should continue.
The Parliamentary Ombudsman chose not to proceed to either the Parliamentary Ombudsman or prosecution. The Government has no other legal assessment of the issue, says Kristersson.
