Plans for raids on Israeli villages and military bases. Militiamen trained to take hundreds of people hostage.

According to new information, Israel's intelligence services warned of Hamas preparations for 7 October in some detail.

In an intelligence report compiled in September last year, about two weeks before the terrorist attacks, recipients within Israel's military were warned of preparations, reports the Israeli public service broadcaster Kan.

The report detailed, among other things, how Hamas members in an elite unit were trained to take hostages on a large scale.

"The expected number of hostages: 200-250 people", wrote the intelligence analysts, according to Kan.

On 7 October, 251 people were taken hostage, in addition to the total of 1,194 people killed.

It was further described how Hamas made plans for armed raids across the border, targeting Israeli communities and military targets.

According to Kan's anonymous sources, this report was known to intelligence officials in the military's Gaza division and the southern command to which it is subordinate.

Israel's government has rejected calls for an investigation into whether anyone failed to prevent the large-scale Hamas attack. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said it should happen only after the war.

Israel's military says, however, that it is "investigating the events" of 7 October actively and that the results will be announced in due course.
