Fewer people survive lung cancer in Denmark, according to new figures from Cancer Society. The proportion of women who live five years after receiving a cancer diagnosis has increased from 10% in the period 2002-2004 to 35% in 2020-2022. For men, the proportion has increased from 8% to 27% during the same period.
Torben Riis Rasmussen, chairman of the specialists in the Danish Lung Cancer Group, points to several important factors.
"Today, it's not uncommon for us to meet a patient with lung cancer who is over 80 years old and whom we have good chances of curing. In order to detect cancer early, we have good treatment and the patient is generally in good health," he says in a press release.
