More than ten people have been killed in Russian attacks on villages and cities in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine, and Zaporizjzja in the south, according to Ukrainian reports.

In Zaporizjzja – which Russia claims to have annexed, but does not fully control – seven people, including two children, have been killed in a Russian robot attack, according to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj.

He reports that eleven people are known to have been injured in the attack, but the number of victims may rise.

In Donetsk, earlier Russian attacks on villages along the front line are reported to have killed four people – including one resident of the Ukrainian small town of Niu-York, according to Governor Vadym Filasjkin.

Niu-York has been under intense shelling since mid-June, as Russia tries to approach the city of Toretsk.

In response to the deadly attacks, Zelenskyj is demanding on Saturday that Western arms deliveries must be stepped up.

"Every delayed decision in this war means a loss of human life", Zelenskyj writes on X.

Earlier on Saturday, Russia claimed to have taken control of another village near the front line in eastern Ukraine. Moscow's Defense Ministry reports that Russia "as a result of successful operations, liberated the settlement of Shumy" and gained a better "tactical position".

The Russian attacks come as Russia is slowly advancing on the battlefield and has launched several offensives in recent times. Among other things, it has intensified air strikes in an attempt to exhaust Ukraine's resources, often targeting energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.
