Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu begs his coalition partner Benny Gantz not to leave the country's war cabinet, after issuing an ultimatum with demands for what should happen after the war in Gaza.
"Don't leave the crisis government. Don't give up on the unity", says Netanyahu on X.
Gantz, who is the opposition leader but also sits on Israel's war cabinet, threatened last month to resign if Netanyahu does not approve a post-war plan by June 8.
When the day arrived, Gantz's office announced that a previously planned press conference on Saturday had been cancelled, after four hostages were freed from Gaza in an operation that, according to Hamas authorities, required the lives of over 200 Palestinians.
Instead, Gantz appeared on Israeli TV on Saturday evening, without directly commenting on his earlier threat to resign.
Gantz had in his ultimatum, among other things, demanded that all hostages be released, but also that an international administration be created for a demilitarized Gaza after the war.
Netanyahu is caught between centrist forces like Gantz and extreme right-wing parties, which also have ministerial posts and have set their own ultimatums to prevent the government from collapsing.
