The Kremlin expects to have signed a new comprehensive cooperation agreement with Iran in the "near future".
This is reported by Reuters, citing an interview with Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrej Rudenko by the Russian state news agency Ria.
We expect this comprehensive cooperation agreement to be signed in the near future, as the work on the text is almost complete, says Rudenko.
The comments come after Russia announced earlier in June that work on the agreement had been temporarily paused, while Iran claimed that the commitment was proceeding as planned.
The two countries entered into a 20-year pact in 2001, covering several areas, including security and energy projects. When the agreement was about to expire in 2020, they agreed to automatically extend it for five years and simultaneously develop a new document.
Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow and Tehran have deepened their cooperation.
