Russia carried out another extensive attack on Ukraine's power grid during the night, according to both Ukrainian and Russian sources.
At least two people were killed in Kharkiv by Russian shelling during the day.
The attack on the eastern city hit a residential area, according to Kharkiv's mayor Ihor Terechov, who also reported that at least 18 people were injured.
During the night, the power supply in Ukraine's southern and western regions was attacked, according to the energy department in Kiev.
"Equipment at (the state-owned power company) Ukrenergo's facilities in Zaporizhzhya and Lviv has been damaged," the department announced. Two people are reported to have been injured in the attacks.
Eighth attack in a row
The attack is described as the eighth large-scale attack on the power grid in three months.
The Ukrainian military counts 16 Russian missiles and 13 attack drones during the night. 11 of the missiles are said to have been shot down and all the drones.
The Russian defence department, on the other hand, claims that all intended targets were hit and calls the Russian attacks retaliations for Ukrainian attacks on Russian power grids.
Halved capacity
The recent targeted attacks on Ukraine's power grid have halved its capacity compared to a year ago, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced earlier in the week. Planned power outages are taking place regularly and are likely to increase in the coming weeks. Ukraine has also had to import more electricity from the EU.
Zelensky has appealed for additional equipment for the Ukrainian air defence. He also wants buildings in the public sector to be equipped with solar panels "as soon as possible".
We are doing everything we can to ensure that Russia's attempts to blackmail us on heat and electricity fail, said the president earlier in the week.
